Description
Salama: Falling in Love with Cooking Again is a celebration of food, friendship and the power of community. Created by Maymessy, this unique cookbook brings together recipes and stories from women who have taken part in its therapeutic cooking programmes and those of its partner charities. The word Salama means peace and safety in many cultures, values that inspire every page of this remarkable collection.
Nestled in the Oxfordshire countryside, Maymessy has been creating supportive spaces through cooking, gardening and shared experiences since 2017. Through these sessions, women have found opportunities to connect with others, build confidence and create positive new memories around food. The recipes in this book reflect the diverse cultures, traditions and experiences of the women involved, with chapters including Recipes from the Heart, Afternoon Tea, Alfresco Feasts and Dine in with Friends. From comforting family favourites and treasured cultural dishes to bakes, sharing platters and recipes perfect for entertaining, every dish has a story to tell.
More than a cookbook, Salama aims to raise awareness of domestic abuse and share information that may help those affected by it. Filled with affordable recipes, personal reflections and messages of hope, it is a testament to resilience, belonging and the simple joy of gathering around the table.
