To those in-the-know, it comes as no surprise that Sheffield has an amazing and diversified independent food scene. Producers, restaurants and delis offering a large and varied range have been at the forefront of championing the city’s groaning table of delightful wares.
Featuring the stories and recipes behind some of Sheffield’s finest food producers; restaurants, café bars, growers, gastro pubs, farm shops, and delicatessens, this was the first in Meze’s regional cookbook series.
The aim of this book was to share Sheffield’s foodie delights and to showcase the independent shops and businesses, from the traditional butchers, bakers and restaurants that have lined the city’s streets for decades to the brand new, changing face of its culinary community, including new initiatives, markets and festivals.
The recipes are a mix of locals’ favourites as well as chefs’ concoctions, from fuss free every day recipes to complex desserts and intriguing flavour combinations suited to the discernible home cook.
In order to fully represent the vibrancy of the city’s food and drink scene, we went into each venue that was featured and photographed the places and the people behind the produce and recipes. The making of this book revealed the sheer amount of hard work, passion and heart that goes into not only the food, but every detail of the business behind it, from customer service to atmosphere. This is why there are over 250 stunning colour photographs to complement the 50 recipes.
Each and every business in the book also received copies to sell from their premises; a proud reminder of their part in the collaborative Sheffield food and drink community.
